Smoothies are hands-down my favorite way to sneak more greens into my kids’ diets. In fairness, they are actually teenagers now and I no longer have to sneak the greens, but a smoothie is still our preferred vehicle for front loading our daily nutrition. I’ve been making some version of a green smoothie for them every morning since they were toddlers so it’s definitely become part of our routine.
Here’s a simple smoothie, with a tropical twist, that packs a big nutritional punch.
Tropical Smoothie
1 frozen banana
2 cups baby spinach
1 cup frozen mango chunks
1 cup almond or coconut milk
1 cup water
2 TBSP hemp seeds
1 scoop apple-berry Power Shake, optional
1-2 tsp honey, or to taste
Blend and Enjoy 🙂
Did you know that just two tablespoons of hemp seeds contain 6 grams of healthy fat, 2 grams of fibre, and 5 grams of protein? Impressive for a little seed. Another fun fact about hemp seeds is that they contain all essential amino acids – something uncommon with plant protein sources – Â making them a great additional to a vegetarian or vegan diet. If you don’t have hemp seeds, you could substitute flax seeds.
I like to add a scoop of organic Power Shake for an additional boost of green food nutrition and healthy fats but the smoothie is great on its own too. If you’d like to try my favorite greens powder, order it here and save $50!
Let me know if you try this smoothie and if your kids like it as much as mine do!
